Candidate for Reelection to School Board

As a candidate for reelection to the Marysville School Board, I offer the perspective of an experienced board member, teacher and parent. I taught agriculture at Marysville High School for 33 years of my 35-year teaching career.  My wife, Gail, and I are the parents of three children who were educated in the Marysville Schools, so I have had a full range of experiences as a parent of children in the school system.

In addition to teaching high school students, I taught Laboratory Pedagogy to aspiring teachers at night for five years at The Ohio State University. During my career at Marysville, I trained more than 20 student teachers.

Besides my experience in education, I have financial experience that is beneficial in understanding the business aspects of the school district. My wife and I started a small farm from scratch in 1988 and we currently farm 300 acres and operate a hog barn where we raise about 1,500 breeding gilts each year. I was a board member of WECU (now Pathways Credit Union) for six years and I ran one of the largest flying clubs in the U.S. for two years. I was elected to the Marysville EVSD Board of Education four years ago and have served as board president for the last two years.

I am a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church in Bellefontaine, where I serve on the property committee. I am also a member of Union County Farm Bureau and Marysville FFA Alumni.

I have a B.S. from The Ohio State University, with a major in agriculture mechanization and systems and minors in agriculture education and aviation. I also received my M.S. from Ohio State in education administration. I started my teaching career at Licking County Joint Vocational School in 1985. After teaching agriculture mechanics there for two years I moved to Marysville High School, where I taught agriculture and science classes from 1987 through June of 2020.
